[Le français suit] “Created during the Paifang Residency in Montréal’s Chinatown in 2025, Vestige I, II and Old Skin New Skin engage with a reflection on the social, cultural, and urban transformations facing the neighbourhood. This residency marks the beginning of a research process that will continue through a new residency and an exhibition planned for 2027.” — BB

“The fragility of the process of transformation echoes that of the materials used—the charcoal and the fine rice paper, both sensitive to time, gesture, and erasure.” — BB

Bryan Beyung is a visual artist based in Montreal. Through painting, mural art, and installation, he explores themes of identity, memory, and transmission related to the diasporic experience. His practice engages with impermanence, cultural transformation, and the tensions between tradition and modernity. Influenced by photography, graphic design, and urban culture, he develops visual narratives where personal memory and collective history intersect. His work has been presented in galleries, festivals, and residencies across Canada and internationally. His murals can be found in public spaces in various cities around the world. In part of MU’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, he is currently collaborating with James Lee Chiahan on a large-scale mural honoring Frédéric Back.

«La fragilité du processus de mutation fait écho à celle des matériaux utilisés — le fusain et le papier fin fait à base de riz, tous deux sensibles au temps, au geste et à l’effacement.»-BB
