“Breeding Birthing evokes a fast-paced realm in which multiple scenarios unfold simultaneously. The title brings two verbs together, offering an entry point while leaving room for ambiguity and for viewers to construct their own narratives. In this field of figures, heads abound, possibly suggesting birth and emergence. We enter the world in reverse, flesh and bone; disorientation is the norm.
As with my other coloured panel drawings, the work began with marks and traces produced through monoprinting as drawings are made. While the ink is wet, I lift and transfer it with another sheet of paper, generating new marks and images that I respond to through further drawing. The resulting accumulation of traces creates motion and afterimages, as if multiple moments were unfolding on a single sheet of paper.” – EP
