Ripley Whiteside est né en 1982 et a grandi à Chapel Hill et Durham, NC. En 2012, il a obtenu un MFA de SUNY-Buffalo, et j'ai reçu un BFA de UNC-CH en 2008. Ripley a participé à des expositions individuelles et collectives aux États-Unis et au Canada, et a été résident à Willapa Bay A.I.R., The Peanut Factory, I-Park, et The Vermont Studio Center. Ripley enseigne en tant qu'adjointe à l'Austin Peay State University et instructeur au Metro Parks Visual Arts, et vit à Nashville, TN.
Ripley est infiniment curieux des mystères du mouvement écologique. Notre présent et notre avenir sont façonnés par le changement rapide du climat et il est hanté par l'idée que nous ne pouvons pas comprendre l'étendue de notre impact. Sa pratique en studio est orientée vers la complexité du moment présent, la nature en mouvement et la transformation du paysage. Ce travail s'efforce de visualiser l'étendue de l'écologie et les limites de notre compréhension. Il présentera son nouveau corpus d’aquarelles cet hiver dans le cadre d’une exposition à la galerie.
Ripley Whiteside was born in 1982 and grew up in Chapel Hill and Durham, NC. In 2012 he graduated with a MFA from SUNY-Buffalo, and I received a BFA from UNC-CH in 2008. Ripley has participated in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Canada, and have been a resident at Willapa Bay A.I.R., The Peanut Factory, I-Park, and The Vermont Studio Center. Ripley teaches as an adjunct at Austin Peay State University and an instructor at Metro Parks Visual Arts, and lives in Nashville, TN.
Ripley is endlessly curious about the mysteries of ecological movement. As our present and future are being shaped by the swiftly changing climate and he is haunted by the notion that we cannot comprehend the extent of our impact. His studio practice is directed towards the complexity of the present moment, nature in motion, and the transformation of landscape. This work struggles to visualize the scope of ecology and the limits of our understanding. He will present his new body of watercolors this winter in an exhibition at the gallery.
