Outer Harbor is an India ink drawing of plant specimens collected along Buffalo’s Outer Harbor drawn from life on a 1 to 1 scale. This shoreline area along Lake Erie is a former industrial zone that was subsequently designated as a brownfield site, and is now a public park. The ground these plants grew in had once been steeped in toxicity, which was remediated when ecological systems were encouraged to naturally decontaminate the area over the course of many decades. I was attracted to these specimens as resilient components of this once-harmed ecology.
