[Le français suit] “Old Skin in the background and New Skin in the foreground. Unlike charcoal works on paper, this piece uses synthetic materials — polyethylene and Tuck Tape — associated with construction sites and urban transformation. The work bears the traces of a neighborhood in transition. The plastic acts as a temporary membrane, between protection, preservation, and transformation.” — BB
Bryan Beyung is a visual artist based in Montreal. Through painting, mural art, and installation, he explores themes of identity, memory, and transmission related to the diasporic experience. His practice engages with impermanence, cultural transformation, and the tensions between tradition and modernity. Influenced by photography, graphic design, and urban culture, he develops visual narratives where personal memory and collective history intersect. His work has been presented in galleries, festivals, and residencies across Canada and internationally. His murals can be found in public spaces in various cities around the world. In part of MU’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, he is currently collaborating with James Lee Chiahan on a large-scale mural honoring Frédéric Back.

«Old skin en arrière plan et New Skin en avant plan. À l’inverse des œuvres au fusain sur papier, cette pièce utilise des matériaux synthétiques polyéthylène et Tuck Tape, liés aux chantiers et à la transformation urbaine. L’œuvre porte les traces d’un quartier en mutation. Le plastique agit comme une membrane temporaire, entre protection, conservation et transformation.»-BB
