“The Hecklers is a precursor to the larger drawing 'The Things You Came to Hear', in which speech bubbles filled with text give these strange, hybridized figures a voice through my spontaneous thoughts, words shared by friends and colleagues, and unexpected connections that emerge through chance, accident, and imagination. In The Hecklers, the empty speech bubbles evoke conversations whose contents are left to the creative mind of the beholder. The white layering over existing drawings suggests that some sounds are muffled or belong to another moment. For me, the speech bubbles open a space for these figures to express their own inner lives, perspectives, and narratives, bringing the visual into dialogue with the fluidity of thought, memory, and imagination.” – EP
