_______________
The series "Mutterzungen (Mother Tongues)" presents embroidered forms that refer to dishes and can be read as signs. Recipes are passed on and preserved within families; they often reveal more about origin than spoken language does. Personal histories and identities are overwritten when a mother tongue is subject to political arbitrariness or the product of colonial violence. Food culture, by contrast, makes continuities and hybridities visible. The title shifts the mother tongue back into the body: from what is spoken to what is tasted.
