The very first hay sculpture I made in 1981 was Bird / Nest. I have revisited this figure and material for over forty years of sculpting and performing; carrying and walking, burning and commemorating. The small bird-nest in Bird Fountain was initially made for a social sculpture entitled The Gift (Not For Arts Sake) for the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art in 1990. It was reactivated for Feu, a one-month long performance during an event curated by Marie-Claude Gendron in le Boisé Vimont in HOMA in 2022 during the COVID lock down. The wooden yoke for Bird Fountain was gathered in a forest in the Laurentians. The porcelain cups are used in laboratories to measure residual deposits from evaporated water.
