“This whistle is astonishingly loud. It is a tribute to LGBTQ2SIA+ elders who have taken risks to make public space safer. I first made a single whistle on a pin for my own use - to call for help if I felt unsafe. Pinned to a garment, I was intrigued by how visible and luxurious the object became. The safety pin has a long history connected to punk and DIY cultures, which in turn have their own connections to queer ways of being. I have an ongoing collection of jewelry, pins. and safety pins that I recombine for daily wear. Each combination brings to mind the still life convention of the letter rack, which brings together bric à brac, correspondance, gloves and accessories onto a single planer field.” - Mark Clintberg

- Mark Clintberg
